Will you move permanently or temporary?

• Permanent move

  By law, Digital and Population Data services Agency must be notified of moving and emigration whenever the domicile or location of residence changes. The notification must be submitted within a week of the move. The permanent address determines, among other things, your tax district, voting location and availability of certain services associated with social security.

• Temporary move

  The person must also inform Digital and Population Data services Agency of his/her temporary place of residence if the residence lasts longer than three months. Digital and Population Data services Agency adds the person's notification in the Population Information System. The person has the responsibility for giving to Digital and Population Data services Agency sufficient additional information about his/her temporary place of residence.

  A change of temporary place of residence has no effect on the notifications made on the basis of a permanent place of residence or on the determination of the person's municipality of residence. The person's municipality of residence does not change on the basis of a notification of temporary residence or the addition of information on the basis of it. If the temporary place of residence changes to a permanent place of residence, a new notification must be made.
