Black Friday kicked off the Christmas season in e-commerce last week. Posti delivered nearly 1.5 million parcels during the week.
This year, Black Friday fell on November 29. However, many stores already started their sales campaigns on the previous week. There have been plenty of parcels on the move during the whole Black Week.
”The Christmas season is a busy time for us. Black Friday has once again kicked off the busiest weeks in parcel deliveries. We have prepared ourselves for example by hiring 1,700 seasonal workers and growing our network during the year. We have opened over 100 new parcel lockers this year and are delivering parcels to popular locations also on Saturdays,” says Posti’s Vice President Kaj Kulp.
While Black Week remains popular, circular economy has also gained popularity among Finnish consumers. The number of Posti parcels containing secondhand goods has grown five times this November, when compared to last year.
This peak season, Posti items will once again be delivered by a constantly growing fossil-free fleet, which includes for example around 500 electric cars and 100 biogas cars. In addition, there are nearly 2,000 light electric vehicles in use. Posti is committed to operating fossil-free by 2030 and being in net-zero when it comes to its own emissions by 2040. We are on our way: in day mail delivery, we reach nearly half of Finnish households with electricity, over 90% in the capital region.
Domestic parcels will reach their destination by Christmas if you send them by December 20. A prepaid parcel can be dropped off at any parcel locker or service point. Christmas cards with a no-value indicator stamp for Christmas need to be mailed by December 12, greetings with a domestic no-value indicator stamp by December 16.
