Customs clearance of an incoming item
We will notify you when you are about to receive an item requiring customs clearance. In practice, customs clearance means declaring the contents of the item and, if necessary, paying the required taxes and other duties.
Make sure that you have the required documents and information: A receipt, an order confirmation or some other document indicating the value and the potential sending costs of the cleared goods The nature of the cleared goods The country of origin and sender of the goods
Clear the item at Tulli.fi .
If necessary, pay Posti’s handling fee of EUR 3.10. You only need to pay the fee if you paid tax on it.
Once the item is cleared, Finnish Customs will release it to Posti for delivery. Your parcel is now on its way to you! You can track it in OmaPosti or on this website .
Would you prefer a customs clearance assignment?
If you don’t want to clear the item yourself, you can assign the task to Posti (EUR 26.85 incl. VAT). We will then carry out customs clearance for you, once you have provided us with the required information and documents.
There is a separate form for the customs clearance assignment. To request a customs clearance assignment for an incoming item, select “Import clearance request” on the form.

If you don’t know the contents of the item
On the notice of arrival, you can see the information provided by the sender regarding the item’s contents. You can also view it in OmaPosti if the item information includes your phone number.
However, if you don’t know the contents of the item, you should first try contacting the sender to find out. If you’re unable to find out the contents or if you don’t know the sender, you can use our additional service to inspect the item. The service is subject to a charge. We will then check any documents attached to or any information marked on the item to shed light on the its contents.
Inspecting the item is an additional service that you can order using the “Customs clearance assignment” form. Select “Inspecting the item” on the form.
Please note that even though parcels may be opened to discover their contents, we are not allowed to open letter items.
We’ll charge a fee in the case that the item is missing the required information.

Pay Posti’s handling fee
You can pay the handling fee here . To do so, please enter the item ID in the field. Payment methods: bank and credit cards as well as online bank.
How to pay: 1. Enter the item ID in the field and click the “Get item information” button. 2. Click the “Pay” button that shows if your item is pending the handling fee payment. 3. Select the payment method, pay and approve the payment. 4. Save or print the receipt.
Why and when do I have to pay a handling fee?
You only need to pay the handling fee (EUR 3.10) if you have paid taxes on your item in connection with customs clearance. If you receive a notification from Finnish Customs that you don’t have to pay tax on your item, you don’t need to pay the handling fee either.
The handling fee covers Posti’s costs related to warehousing and processing items.
Pay the handling fee within 20 days of your item’s arrival in the country. If you don’t pay the handling fee in time, we’ll have to send the item back to the sender. The handling fee is based on the agreements of the Universal Postal Union.
You can also pay the handling fee at a Posti outlet when picking up the item. In this case, the handling fee is EUR 3.30.
Once you have paid the handling fee and cleared the item, the item is released by Finnish Customs and we can deliver it to you.
Note! Make sure to write the item ID correctly in the field. An incorrectly entered item ID may result in you accidentally paying a handling fee for another person’s item. This cannot be changed afterwards.
Did you pay the handling fee when you didn’t need to?
If you paid a handling fee for an item when you didn’t need to, you can claim a refund. In this case, fill in the “Request a handling fee refund” form. Please also attach the customs clearance decision you got from Finnish Customs.

Publications, gifts and documents must also be cleared
All goods arriving from outside the EU should be cleared, including products purchased online, publications you have subscribed to, gifts that have been sent to you as well as documents for which a value has been provided.
The notice of arrival tells you when you have an incoming item that requires customs clearance.
