UPDATE FEB 20: AKT's strike continues as the negotiation parties did not find a solution on Sunday evening Feb 19
***
UPDATE FEB 17 (new info regarding emptying mailboxes): Finnish Transport Workers’ Union AKT’s strike began on Wednesday, February 15. We are not a participant in the negotiations and cannot impact the resolution. We hope that an agreement is reached quickly.
In addition, The Finnish Post and Logistics Union PAU’s support measures began on Thursday, February 16. The goal of the support measures is to quicken AKT’s collective agreement negotiations in the trucking sector. The strike regarding road transport and PAU’s support measures are announced to end on February 21.
AKT’s strike and PAU’s support measures will unfortunately cause delays and disturbances in deliveries for our customers. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience this situation causes.
We aim to deliver parcels as normally as possible soon after the strike
Our estimates on delivery delays have been specified since the strike and support measures began. According to our current estimate:
parcels sent during the strike will be delayed from 5 days to a week. The delay is caused by temporary warehousing and the dismantling of the backlog it causes.
letters and advertising sent during the strike and magazines delivered during the daytime will be delayed from one to two weeks, according to our estimate. The delay is longer because there is a significantly higher number of letter recipients across the country.
parcels sent after the strike will mainly be delivered as per usual. Small disturbances are possible in the days following the strike.
newspapers in early morning delivery will mainly be delivered as per usual. Small local disturbances are possible.
freight deliveries will be delayed by approximately one week
Posti's mailboxes are emptied according to normal schedule
Deliveries related to health and safety, and notification of the right to vote in the parliamentary elections (notification card), are excluded from the strike and we aim to deliver them according to normal schedule.
Deliveries related to health and safety include for example deliveries related to healthcare (blood and laboratory deliveries) and meal deliveries (schools, kindergartens, institutional and home deliveries of meals to the elderly).

UPDATE FEB 15: AKT's strike has started as the negotiation parties did not find a solution on Tuesday evening Feb 14
***
Finnish Transport Workers' Union AKT has announced a strike in the transportation sector for February 15-21. Posti is not a negotiation party and we cannot influence the resolution of the dispute. In addition, the Postal and Logistics Union PAU has announced that it will support AKT’s strike with industrial actions concerning the loading and unloading of trucks and trailers from 16 February to 21 February. The aim of the support measures is to speed up AKT's collective agreement negotiations.
The strikes will have an effect on Posti's transport and terminal operations as well as domestic and international deliveries. We apologize for the inconvenience to our customers and the delays caused by the strikes.
Disruptions or delays in deliveries
We estimate that the delivery of parcels, letters and magazines as well as international deliveries to and from Finland will be delayed between a few days to over a week. The same estimate applies to freight.
If deliveries cannot be made due to the strike, they will be taken care of and stored appropriately. Deliveries related to health and safety have been excluded from strikes and support measures including for example, deliveries related to healthcare (blood and laboratory deliveries) and meal deliveries (schools, kindergartens, institutional and home deliveries of meals to the elderly).
At Posti, we monitor the labor market situation and ongoing negotiations and mediations. We hope for a quick agreement and an end to the strikes. We will estimate the impact of the strikes on our services daily and will communicate about any possible changes by updating this release. After the strikes are over, we will try to return to normal as quickly as possible.
