The express letter will arrive the following or second weekday after mailing it, and in the largest cities also on Saturdays (excluding public holidays), if desired. If the express letter cannot be delivered to a mail slot or mailbox (for example, if the downstairs door of an apartment building is locked), it will be delivered to Posti where the recipient can pick it up. Check the delivery time using the delivery time inquiry.

Please note that an express letter is not suitable for sending money or valuables. If you wish to send valuable items, choose the insured item service.

Insured Letter

If you are sending any money, securities (such as housing stock certificates) or valuables, always send them as insured items. That means that the letters undergo a special security procedure. Postal Insurance only covers actual and substantiated damage up to the insured value.

You can send an Insured Letter from any service point that offers all of Posti's services, including Letter Services. See Posti's service points.

This is how it works:

  • The attendant at the service point will give you the labels for an insured item and a tracking code. If your item is fragile, the attendant will also give you the “Fragile” label approved by Posti to be attached to the item. Labels are available at service points.

  • You will receive an item ID that can be used to track the letter's delivery in Item Tracking.

Insured items can usually be picked up within 2–3 days of mailing them. The price of an insured item is based on the weight of the item and any additional services. The transportation charge in Finland includes processing the item as a fragile item. See prices, dimensions and weight limits

What does the postal insurance cover?

If any damage occurs, it must be substantiated. In case of damages, we recommend keeping a receipt, for example, showing the value of the contents of the item. Postal insurance only covers direct property damage and does not cover, for example, antique, collectible or sentimental value. If your item has such value, we recommend checking out the insurance policies offered by insurance companies.

Handing over to the Addressee in Person

If you want the item to be handed over at a service point against signature and only to the natural person indicated as the recipient, add 'Handing over to the Addressee in Person' as an additional service for the item. If the recipient is a business or corporation, the 'Handing over to the Addressee in Person' additional service cannot be used. The prices of additional services can be found in the price list .

Registered letter

If you need a receipt for the mailing, send a registered letter. The item is handed over to the recipient or a person authorized by the recipient in exchange for an acknowledgement.

You can send a registered letter from any service point that offers all of Posti's services, including letter services. See Posti's service points

An tracking bar code is attached to the registered letter at the counter of Posti's service point. A registered letter cannot be dropped off in a mailbox or a service point only providing parcel services.

Please note that money or valuables cannot be sent in a registered letter.

Prices The price of a registered letter consists of a basic fee and a price determined by weight. The price of the letter can be paid by postage stamps or at Posti's service points.

Any stamps (including domestic no-value indicator stamps) can be used, as long as their combined value covers the postage fee determined by weight as well as the basic fee for registering the letter.

You can send a Cash on Delivery Letter from any service point offering all of Posti's services, including Letter Services. See Posti's service points. A Cash on Delivery Letter can be paid in advance online .
