Accessible mail delivery or Exceptional Delivery
We don’t always deliver your mail to your home yard, but slightly further away to a mailbox along the delivery route. If you're over the age of 75 or have a mobility impairment, you can have your mail delivered closer – for example, to a mailbox at the edge of your property or to the apartment’s mail slot, i.e. the Nearby Mailbox. The name of this statutory service is Exceptional Delivery.
The service can only be ordered to a permanent residential address. Exceptional Delivery applies to so-called day mail, i.e. invoices, magazines, advertisements, etc. Morning newspaper delivery is included in the service in the areas where newspapers are delivered by Posti.
Note! If the morning newspaper is delivered to a pickup point (drop box) in early-morning delivery, it is not possible to deliver the subscribed newspaper to the Nearby Mailbox. In this case, only letters, invoices, magazines and advertisements delivered with day mail will be delivered to the Nearby Mailbox.
Exceptional Delivery does not apply to parcel deliveries. However, most online stores offer a home delivery option for parcels.
Are there others living in the same household?
Your mail can be delivered as accessible Exceptional Delivery if everyone living at the address is entitled to the service. In other words, you can subscribe to the service if both you and your domestic partner are at least 75 years of age or have a mobility impairment.
However, you may be eligible for Exceptional Delivery even if your domestic partner isn’t. This is the case if you are disabled or 75 years of age and you spend so much time alone that it takes considerable effort to pick up your mail.
