The way we deliver mail
In most areas, we deliver mail every other weekday. This applies to letters, cards, publications, addressed advertisements and small parcels delivered to a mail slot or a mailbox.
In most parts of Finland, we deliver newspapers early in the morning, seven days a week. Most newspapers are still delivered daily once they’ve been published. The schedules are set together with the publishers.
The delivery methods used in different regions can slightly vary. Read more about the new delivery methods.
Check our search service for mail delivery times in your area.
Although the majority of mail is still delivered by Posti, there are also several other mail delivery operators in Finland. Read more about other delivery companies.

If you’re wondering when mail is delivered in your area, you can check it in the delivery day search.
If you don’t receive your daily paper
If your daily paper is delayed, this may be due to exceptionally bad weather conditions or a publication disruption.
For more information on morning newspaper delivery issues, please contact the delivery service of the relevant newspaper.
Newspapers and magazines are also delivered with day mail. If the daytime delivery is experiencing delays, we will issue a service disruption notice.
If you’re expecting a specific item in the mail
Besides Posti, there are also other mail delivery companies operating in Finland. This is good to know, for example, if you’re waiting for a specific invoice to arrive.
The markings on a letter or a publication shows the company that delivers it. Items distributed by us say Posti. Letters are also marked Priority or Economy.
If further investigations are required, the best way forward is to ask the sender for the name of the delivery company that they use.

If you receive mail belonging to someone else
A previous resident’s mail may be delivered to you even if the previous resident has submitted a notification of change of address. A change of address notification notifies various authorities and businesses of the new address, but not all.
The first port of call is to verify if the item is delivered by Posti. All stamped letters are delivered by Posti. Posti also delivers all letters sent by companies and marked with Posti, Priority or Economy.
If the letter was delivered by Posti, cross out the address and write “incorrectly delivered” on the envelope. Return the letter to a Posti outlet or Posti’s orange mailbox.
Any letters marked with another delivery ID have been delivered by a delivery company other than Posti. Please check the delivery company’s own website for return instructions.

The marked address affects mail delivery
Machine sorting makes letter and card delivery smoother, but only if addresses are correctly marked. It is important to mark the address clearly, correctly and in the right place. You can find instructions on how to write the address details here.
If the machine vision is unable to read the markings on a letter or a card, the item will be sent to address clarification and its delivery will be delayed. The same is true if the address is incorrect or incomplete (for example, if the apartment number is missing).
The item is also sent to address clarification if the address does not correspond with the recipient’s address entered in Posti’s register. That said, you can give Posti several parallel addresses. For instance, it’s a good idea to add the address of your holiday home as a parallel address if you want Posti to deliver your mail there. Your mail will then not be unnecessarily redirected to your permanent address.

Who decides the placement of mailboxes?
The way mailboxes are placed has an effect on smooth mail delivery, traffic safety and road maintenance. The task of choosing their locations belongs to Posti. See the instructions regarding the placement and erection of mailboxes.
When it comes to mailbox placement, we cooperate with municipalities and the Ely Centres in charge of road maintenance. Read more about the cooperation with municipalities .
