The Data Protection Authority published today November 15, 2024, its decision regarding the data protection case initiated in 2018 regarding Posti's Netposti service at the time. Posti considers the authority's decision on the alleged procedure in violation of the EU data protection regulation to be unfounded. Posti has complied with the law and will bring the matter to court for a decision.
According to the authority’s view, informing consumer customers using the electronic mailbox service about the onboarding and functionality of the mailbox has not been sufficient. The service that later became OmaPosti and the electronic mailbox included in it is widely used, valued by our customers and safe to use.
It is easy to get the impression that the OmaPosti service was evaluated in the authority’s official decision. However, the review only concerned the onboarding of the electronic mailbox.
Posti has operated and will continue to operate in accordance with the legislation, and is constantly developing its services and customer communication.
The OmaPosti service currently has over a million active users. Over the years, the service has been developed and improved in many ways, and the number of users has grown steadily.
