Mail forwarding or mail delivery interruption

Mail forwarding or fixed-term forwarding

If you want your mail temporarily delivered to another address, subscribe to fixed-term forwarding. This is also called mail forwarding or redirecting.

You can have your mail forwarded, e.g. if you are vacationing at your summer home, living abroad for a while or temporarily living at a different address due to a pipe renovation. If you’re moving permanently, make a change of address , i.e. complete a notification of change of address. When you request fixed-term forwarding, we’ll deliver your mail to the new address for the selected period of time. When the period ends, we’ll start delivering your mail to your old address again.

However, bear in mind that mail is also delivered by companies other than Posti. These services only affect our mail delivery.

What is included in the service

The service applies to addressed items (letters, publications, addressed ads).

The service doesn’t include:

  • Newspapers delivered in early-morning delivery. To arrange your newspapers to be redirected, contact the customer service of the newspaper and notify Posti of the parallel address. This way, you can have your newspaper delivered to you without delay.

  • Advertisement delivery. If you don’t want ads delivered to your original address, mark “Ei mainoksia” (“No advertisements”) on your mailbox.

  • Items delivered to your home and parcels other than small parcels delivered with mail.

  • Mail delivered by delivery companies other than Posti.

Forwarding your mail abroad

You can also have your mail forwarded to an address abroad. The forwarding covers letters weighing less than 250g. Other items will be returned to the sender or processed as undeliverable items.

To subscribe to fixed-term forwarding

  • You can subscribe to fixed-term forwarding by logging into Posti’s web service.

  • You can also subscribe to the service by using a printed form available at a Posti outlet.

When calculating the duration of a service, the start and end dates of the service are included in the validity period of the service. At the earliest, you can subscribe to the service two months before the start date of the service.

  • If necessary, use this form to cancel the order.

  • If you want to shorten the duration of an active service, you can do it through the web service.

Mail delivery interruption

You can put your mail on hold while you’re away on vacation, for example. This way, you can make sure that your mailbox doesn’t fill up and that your mail is kept safe. And when your vacation is over, you can pick up your mail at your local post office. You can subscribe to the service via Posti’s web service.

The duration of the service is 1 week – 2 months.

Picking up your mail

You can pick up your accumulated mail at a Posti outlet on the third working day after the interruption. You’re not able to pick up your mail during the delivery interruption because it won’t be delivered to the Posti outlet until after the interruption period.

We will keep your mail for two weeks after the end of the delivery interruption. After that, it is returned to the senders.

Some mail may be returned during the interruption period

Please note that during the interruption period, we will return items requiring signature as well as items with a notice of arrival in accordance with the storage periods specified in our general terms of delivery or at the sender’s request.

Other considerations

  • The service is personal. In your order, please indicate everyone whose mail should be put on hold.

  • If you want to put advertisement delivery on hold for the duration of your vacation, please attach an “Ei mainoksia” (“No advertisements”) note to your mail slot or mailbox.

  • Please note that mail is also delivered by other delivery companies. Posti’s mail delivery interruption only stops the mail delivered by Posti.

Parallel address

If you’re intentionally having mail delivered to an address other than your permanent place of residence, it is a good idea to give it as a parallel address. This way, the mail sent to your secondary address is not accidentally directed to your permanent address.

You can add a parallel address in the mail redirection services on Posti’s web service . You can have several parallel addresses.

When you have an active parallel address, your mail is delivered according to the address marked by the sender. This doesn’t include forwarding, so if you want to forward your mail from your home to your summer home, for example, use fixed-term mail forwarding.
